Server Monitoring and Maintenance
Server monitoring and maintenance services for uptime, disk usage, load, services, SSL, mail queues, backups and infrastructure health.
Know Before Your Users Do
Unmonitored servers fail silently. Disks fill up, certificates expire, services crash, and mail queues grow — all without anyone noticing until a customer complains or revenue stops. HireSysAdmin provides server monitoring and scheduled maintenance so problems are caught early and addressed before they become outages.
What We Monitor
- Uptime — server reachability, ping, HTTP/HTTPS endpoint checks
- Disk usage — filesystem capacity, inode usage, growth trends
- CPU and load — sustained load, runaway processes, resource contention
- Memory — usage, swap activity, OOM events
- Services — web server, database, mail, DNS, application processes
- SSL certificates — expiration tracking with advance alerting
- Mail queues — queue size, delivery failures, bounce rate spikes
- Backups — job completion, backup age, storage availability
- Updates — pending security patches, kernel updates, EOL tracking
- Web server — response codes, error rates, configuration validity
- Database — connection count, slow queries, replication status
- DNS health — zone consistency, record propagation, resolver availability
Monthly Maintenance
Each monitoring engagement includes scheduled monthly maintenance. This is not just a report — it is hands-on work.
Monthly Deliverables
- Health report — server status summary covering all monitored metrics
- Incidents summary — any alerts triggered, how they were resolved, and root cause where applicable
- Update status — security patches applied or scheduled, with notes on any deferred updates
- Backup status — confirmation that backups are running, recent, and restorable
- Recommendations — capacity warnings, upcoming renewals, configuration improvements, risk items
- Included support hours — time allocated for reactive work within the monitoring scope
Monitoring Stack
We work with standard, proven monitoring tools and adapt to what is already in your environment. If no monitoring exists, we deploy and configure an appropriate stack as part of onboarding. Common tools include Nagios, Zabbix, Icinga, Prometheus with Grafana, Uptime Kuma, and provider-native monitoring where applicable.
Common Scenarios
- No monitoring exists and you need visibility into server health
- Monitoring is set up but nobody is watching the alerts
- A server went down and no one knew until customers reported it
- Certificates keep expiring because renewal is manual and forgotten
- Disk space issues cause recurring outages
- You want a monthly sysadmin review without hiring full-time staff
How We Work
Monitoring is typically paired with a retainer plan for the best coverage. The retainer provides included hours for reactive work, while monitoring ensures issues are detected promptly. For standalone monitoring without a retainer, contact us to discuss options.
